Peter Van Geertruyden, MD, FACRMusculoskeletal Radiology
As an experienced Musculoskeletal radiologist Dr. Van Geertruyden has a special interest in the imaging of sports related injuries. He helped establish a monthly Hampton Roads Orthopedics – Sports Medicine – Radiology Interdisciplinary Conference that brings local providers together to discuss best practices in the realm of Sports Medicine. Dr. Van Geertruyden is a frequently invited guest lecturer at the local and national level presenting on a diverse range of topics including musculoskeletal radiology, professionalism, and mentorship.
Dr. Van Geertruyden is an active American College of Radiology (ACR) member. He has held appointments to the ACR Government Relations Commission, Committee on Practice Development, Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) and Executive Committee of the Young Physicians Section (YPS) in addition to being a Past President of the District of Columbia Medical Radiological Society (DCMRS).
While serving in the United States Army for over 25 years, LTC (Ret.) Van Geertruyden held various leadership positions including while deployed overseas to Bosnia and Iraq. His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Combat Medical Badge, the Army Flight Surgeon Badge, and Army Parachutists Badge. In 2020, Peter retired from active duty service, joined Medical Center Radiologists and relocated with his family to the Hampton Roads area, where he was raised.
Dr. Van Geertruyden currently lives in Norfolk with his wife, their two children and Golden Retriever puppy. His hobbies include tennis, squash, and boating.
