Thanh Van, MD Breast Imaging
Dr. Van is committed to providing the highest quality patient care and is passionate about educating and training future physicians, radiologists and fellows. Before joining Medical Center Radiologists (MCR), she was the director of Breast Imaging and Intervention at UT Health San Antonio, where she had an academic appointment of Associate Professor in the Dept of Radiology. Dr. Van also served on the medical school admissions committee at the Long School of Medicine and as director for the Breast Imaging and Intervention Fellowship at UT Health. She is dual board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and is also fellowship trained in Breast Imaging and Intervention.
Dr. Van graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree before obtaining her Medical Degree from Baylor College of Medicine. Her Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology residencies were at Northwestern University and Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, respectively. Dr. Van’s breast imaging fellowship was at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Dr. Van has over 20 years of experience, having practiced in academia and private practice. Her areas of interest include PET/CT oncologic imaging, breast and chest imaging. She has been recognized for excellence in her profession and was named among San Antonio’s top doctors for multiple years by Scene in San Antonio Magazine and received the Bexar County Medical Society Extraordinary Women in Leadership Award in 2022. The Long School of Medicine recognized her with the 2022 Women in Medicine Month honor, as one of the women who are changing the face of health, medicine, and science.
Dr. Van is married to Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) William Smith. She is a coffee and wine enthusiast who enjoys traveling, cooking, poker and photography in her spare time.
