PEDIATRIC IMAGING
Radiology For Children At The Children’s Hospital Of The King’s Daughters
MCR’s pediatric radiologists understand the specific needs of our youngest patients and their families. In addition to advanced imaging procedures and capabilities, pediatric imaging especially emphasizes the physical and emotional comfort of children. Our pediatric radiologists are proud to partner with the Children’s Hospital Of The King’s Daughters to provide kid-focused, compassionate and highly advanced pediatric imaging to children both at the hospital and at outpatient locations.
What Is A Pediatric Radiologist?
Pediatric radiologists are experts in using imaging to diagnose diseases and injuries in children of all ages, including newborns. After graduating from medical school, pediatric radiologists spend 5 years in general radiology training, including one year of more general clinical medical training. This is followed by one or more years of additional training in pediatric radiology. Our pediatric radiologists are each certified by the American Board of Radiology with advanced certificates specific to pediatric radiology.

Keeping Your Child Calm & Comfortable During Pediatric Imaging
We understand that children have unique physical, emotional and anatomical needs when it comes to diagnostic tests, and MCR’s pediatric radiologists and the team at CHKD do their best to make children comfortable before and during their exam. This may include:
While we use the same imaging modalities in pediatric radiology, our team approaches imaging differently. Not only are children’s bodies much smaller than adults, but they are still developing and growing, too. There are also certain medical conditions completely unique to children. MRC’s pediatric imaging radiologists have a specialized understanding of what this means, both during the procedure and afterwards, when interpreting the scan.

Is Radiation Safe For Children?
Rest assured, MCR’s pediatric radiologists are dedicated to your child’s safety above all else. Our advanced imagining modalities are always the latest models and use the least amount of radiation possible by using the most advanced imagining modalities available. As part of our commitment to continually evolving our standard of high-quality patient care, we are always exploring new methods of imaging that do not rely on radiation.
Helping Your Child Prepare For Imaging
While our team will do everything possible to help your child feel at ease during their imaging test, you can help prepare your child for their visit by explaining what radiology is in simple terms. For example, you can provide a kid-friendly definition of radiology by saying that it is taking pictures of the inside of the body. You can also show them pictures of X-rays to both create interest and help them better understand body imagining. Try showing them an X-ray view of their favorite animal!
