From June 6–8, 2025 the Virginia Beach Oceanfront was transformed into a high-energy beach soccer arena as the 31st Annual North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) took over the coast! With over 100,000 fans flooding the shoreline over three thrilling days, spectators witnessed non-stop action, international flair, and electrifying beach soccer energy all weekend long.

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) Department of Radiology hosts a chapter of Rad-Aid, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring radiology to low-resource areas. As part of their partnership with Rad-Aid, Dr. Amy Farkas, a Medical Center Radiologists (MCR) pediatric radiologist and faculty member of EVMS – ODU, and Laura Columbus, an EVMS-ODU radiology resident, recently traveled to the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Moshi, Tanzania.

MCR Radiologist Frances Lazarow, MD, was recently interviewed for a feature spot on WVEC TV News 13 promoting lung cancer screening efforts. Lung cancer screening with a low-dose CT scan is recommended for people between the ages of 50 and 80 who have a history of heavy smoking. Specifically, people who have smoked the equivalent of one pack of cigarettes per day for at least 20 years are considered at high risk.
