Meet Our Dedicated Radiologists

Our radiology team consists of medical professionals who are uniquely trained and certified to conduct imaging studies using state-of-the-art equipment and technology to help doctors diagnose various conditions. Our radiologists specialize in a variety of specialities within the field, and our IR radiologists are also able to treat conditions with minimally invasive methods that prioritize patient comfort and replace the need for surgery.

As the only academic radiology practice in Southwestern Virginia, we are dedicated to educating the next generation of radiologists. Our physicians are faculty at Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University (formerly Eastern Virginia Medical School) and teach and mentor young radiologists. Learn more about our team!

Learn More About Our Imaging Modalities

Our imaging equipment is regulated by state and federal programs, and our radiologists are specially trained to use them expertly and safely. In addition to examining the body to help diagnose medical conditions, these technologies can also be used to guide medical procedures to place catheters, stents or other devices inside the body. Learn more about our advancing imaging technology:

CT scans use X-rays and advanced computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the body. In a single scan, our radiologists can examine the lungs, bones, soft tissues and blood vessels. Fast and precise, CT is a trusted tool for diagnosing everything from head injuries to cancer and can also be used to guide minimally invasive treatments.

MRI uses strong magnets and radio waves (and no radiation) to create highly detailed images of soft tissues, joints, the brain, spine, heart and more. It’s a go-to method for evaluating sports injuries, back pain, cancer and vascular conditions. At MCR, our MRI services pair advanced imaging technology with a calm, comfortable setting for accurate, reliable results.

Fluoroscopy captures continuous, real-time X-ray images, almost like watching a movie of the body. This dynamic technique is often combined with a contrast agent, allowing our radiologists to see organs in detail, guide procedures and diagnose conditions such as gastrointestinal or joint issues. It is an essential tool for our team to guide many minimally invasive treatments.

Ultrasound uses safe, high-frequency sound waves—not radiation—to create live images of internal organs, tissues and blood flow. Sonography monitors pregnancies, evaluates the reproductive and other organs, guides procedures and more. Quick, comfortable and versatile, ultrasound provides our team with immediate information for diagnosis and treatment planning.

A DEXA scan measures bone mineral density to identify osteoporosis and assess fracture risk, especially in areas like the hips and spine. This simple, painless test tracks bone health over time and guides decisions for osteoporosis treatment and prevention.

X-rays are quick, painless and essential for diagnosing a wide range of conditions, from broken bones and joint problems to lung conditions. Using minimal radiation and advanced digital technology, MCR’s radiologists use X-rays to make confident, timely decisions about your care.
